As part of the work to build the Shinfield Eastern Relief Road HOCHTIEF (UK) Construction will be installing 3 new flood relief culverts under Arborfield Road (A327), near to the Magpie & Parrot pub.

Why is the work necessary?

Installing additional flood culverts is required to fulfil an Environment Agency requirement, as part of the Planning Permission for the project, and will help reduce the impact of upstream flooding.

When will the work take place?

Work is due to start on 03 August 2015 and will continue from Monday to Saturday (07.00 – 21.00) and Sunday (09.00 – 18.00) for approximately 3 weeks, subject to weather conditions. Wokingham Borough Council has agreed to extend our working hours so that we can maximise our activities.

The road itself will be closed for the entirety of this 3 week period (i.e. the road will be closed 24 hours per day, seven days per week).

How does this affect residents and businesses?

To carry out the work in the safest, most efficient, and overall least disruptive way possible, we need to close Arborfield Road to through-traffic for the entirety of this 3 week period (i.e. the road will be closed 24 hours per day, seven days per week). This road closure has been reviewed and approved by Wokingham Borough Council.  During the 3 week closure Wokingham Borough Council is hoping to do some road improvement works in the area at the same time.

Due to the nature of the work and the equipment we need to use, some additional noise is likely to be experienced while we are on site.

Diversion route signage will be in place to direct through-traffic onto the following agreed route:

Westbound Traffic

At Arborfield Cross take the B3030 (Sindlesham Road, Mole Road, King Street) to Winnersh;

Turn left onto the A329 (Reading Road) and then left onto the B3270 (Lower Earley Way North, Lower Earley Way);

Continue along the B3270 to Black Boy roundabout and then join the A327 to Shinfield.

Eastbound Traffic

From Black Boy roundabout take the B3270 (Lower Earley Way, Lower Earley Way North);

At Winnersh turn right onto the A329 (Reading Road) and then right onto the B3030 (King Street, Mole Road, Sindlesham Road) to Arborfield Cross.

Access

During the closure, access to and from all properties fronting the A327 within the closure will be maintained, however, this may not be via your normal route.  Vehicle access for through-traffic will not be possible in the working area, however, pedestrians and cyclists will be able to use a temporary crossing at all times.
