Due to a delay in the delivery of certain essential materials, the beam installation has been re-programmed to take place over 5 nights during the week commencing 30th November, subject to weather conditions.  During this time our site hours overnight will be 18:00 to 07:00. These beams will form the main span of the new 6 lane bridge, which will join the new eastern relief road.

Advanced work to complete the remaining substructure on both sides of the M4 is ongoing and will continue until we lift the steel beams into place.  For these works only, the local authority has extended our permitted hours of working to be Monday to Friday 08:00 – 20:00 and Saturdays from 08:00 – 19:00.  Access will be required to the offices and facilities at the Lane End Farm compound during the above periods and, although we will make every effort to minimise disruption to residents, the equipment we use means some noise is unavoidable.

To carry out the beam installation safely and to minimise disruption to the travelling public, we need to close the M4 between 21:00 - 06:00 (with the exception of Thursday 3rd December when the M4 will be closed between 23:00 - 06:00).  Diversion route signage will be in place to direct through-traffic onto the following agreed route:

Eastbound traffic:

Exit the M4 at junction 11, travel along the B3270 to Black Boy roundabout.  Continue straight ahead on the B3270 (Lower Earley Way) to the Showcase roundabout. Take the 2nd exit (straight ahead) onto the A3290, then join the A329(M) and re-join the M4 eastbound at junction 10.

Westbound traffic:

Exit the M4 at junction 10, travel along the A329(M) towards Reading, then join the A3290 towards the Showcase roundabout.  At the Showcase roundabout take the 2nd exit (straight ahead) and continue on the B3270 (Lower Earley Way). Travel along the B3270 and at Black Boy roundabout continue straight ahead to re-join the M4 at junction 11.
