Relief Road Update

16 Nov 2016

After suffering a delay during September and October, we now have final plans in place to complete the Shinfield Eastern Relief Road (SERR).  We understand that the ongoing traffic management has been challenging at times and we are grateful for your continued patience.

Work will be ongoing on site until project completion at the end of January 2017 (ERR Completion Phasing Sheet 1).  During this time there will be various lane closures in place to protect the workforce and the travelling public.  To minimise overall disruption to the local community, some key activities will require overnight road closures (ERR Completion Phasing Sheet 2) which have been agreed with Wokingham Borough Council.  These activities are planned to take place in the following phases:

Black Boy Roundabout (small section of south side)

21/11/16 – 25/11/16 (5 nights), from 21.00 hrs to 06.00 hrs

The south side of Black Boy roundabout will be closed for loop cutting to enable signal the signals, final surfacing and road markings.  Westbound traffic will be diverted via Lane End Farm gyratory system and eastbound traffic will remain unaffected.

A327 Arborfield Road Roundabout

28/11/16 – 03/12/16 (6 nights), from 21.00 hrs to 06.00 hrs

There will be a full road closure in place during the above times and all traffic will be diverted (route attached).  This is to allow us to complete extensive final surfacing and road markings.

Cutbush Lane (East) / SERR junction

07/12/16 (1 night), from 21.00 hrs to 06.00 hrs

(08/12/16 is a contingency date, in case we experience bad weather)

Cutbush Lane will be fully closed, from the point at which the new relief road crosses it to the M4.  This is to carry out the final surfacing work and road markings at the junction.

Residents / businesses requiring vehicular access overnight should park on the Shinfield side of the new relief road before the road closes at 21.00 hrs.  Pedestrians will be marshalled through the works and emergency services access will be maintained.

The Shinfield Eastern Relief Road is planned to open on 08th December, subject to completing the work at Cutbush Lane (East) as detailed above.  Signage will be in place to advise residents, businesses and the general public of any changes.

Once opened, we will need to temporarily install narrow lanes and a 30 mph speed limit on the relief road next to the Cutbush Lane (East) junction.  This will allow us to safely erect acoustic barrier and install curbing and ducting, which cannot be completed until the Cutbush Lane junction has been permanently altered.

Shinfield Road from Brookers Hill to Black Boy

25/01/17 – 28/01/17 (4 nights), from 21.00 hrs to 06.00 hrs

There will be a full road closure in place northbound to complete the traffic signal loops, final surfacing and road markings on the A327.  All Northbound through-traffic will be diverted via the new relief road.  The southbound carriageway (indicated grey on the plan) will be closed for loop cutting for 1 night only and access into Shinfield for this night will be signed via the new relief road.

Due to the nature of the work and the equipment we need to use, some additional noise is likely to be experienced while we are on site.  Buses will still be able to operate, please see Reading Buses for any revised timetables.
